Update of the complete ranking of asset management entities
The data recently released by the CMVM for June 2021 show the most current picture and the recent evolution of the ranking of asset management entities, with reference to the end of the first half of the year.
These June data show a total of 48.58 billion euros of assets under management, a small growth, both in relation to the previous quarter (+ 0.17%) and in the same period of the previous year (0.36%).
The numbers also reflect almost 14 million euros in the management sphere of BMO Portugal. The management entity confirmed in March that Ageas – its client in Portugal – has communicated its intention to carry out internally the asset management of the group’s various investment solutions in Portugal, which will have a subsequent impact on the data in this ranking. This impact should represent a close fall, in terms of value, at the scale of the total assets managed in June by the wealth management entity and put the total national assets in this market segment close to 35 billion euros.
Of note is the data released by the regulator, there is the annual evolution of the assets of three of the leading companies, due to the range of variation. On the one hand, GNB SGP, which saw its market share fall by more than 2 percentage points. On the other hand, BPI Gestão de assets and Banco Comercial Português followed the opposite path and accumulated 1.48 and 1.39 percentage points of their market share, respectively (+731 and +682 million euros, respectively).
Among the smaller entities, the highlight is the remarkable growth of Lynx Asset Managers, which saw its assets grow from 5 million euros to 19.4 million euros.
Abanca, the leading entity in the distribution of funds in Portugal, also stands out in the 12-month period ending in June, having more than doubled its assets under management under discretionary management.
With lower growth in relative terms, but significant in scale, we also find Banco Invest (+6.45 million euros) and Bison Bank (+1.88 million euros).
