Trekking in history, here is the Florence of War and Liberation
Six scheduled appointments on the itineraries that allow us to recover the Florentine events of 1943-44, many of which had the streets of the 5th district and the Oltrarno as their theater.
The project – coordinated by Matteo Mazzoni, director of the Institute with Giada Kogovsek who conceived it – also includes a training initiative to accompany over 70 tourist guides. “We often walk through the streets of our city as distracted passersby, without questioning ourselves about the events of which, in the recent past, the same streets have been the scene – the project promoters highlight – What we want to propose are paths within history of War, Resistance and City Liberation to rediscover roots and look at today’s city with different eyes “. The walks through history are organized in collaboration with the Regola d’Arte Association and with the extraordinary participation of Letizia Fuochi.
First appointment Friday 12 November – from 10 to 12 – on the path that starts from Piazza Dalmazia and reaches the Chemical Pharmaceutical Plant. Walkers of history are presented with the memory of the tombstones that remember, one by one, those who fought for the liberation of the city. At the Military Pharmaceutical Chemical Institute – a structure that was at the center of the fighting – a plaque commemorates the twelve victims of the German massacre of 5 August 1944, which took place while roundups of civilians were in progress. It was a month of suffering for the population of the group: the liberation of Careggi only reached 31 August.
The second urban trekking in history is dedicated to the Oltrarno, symbol and protagonist of the redemption of the city, scheduled for Friday 19 November from 3 to 5 pm. piazza Santo Spirito, Palazzo Pitti, Ponte Santa Trinita and, finally, Palazzo Vecchio.
The other appointments are scheduled for Saturday 20 – from 10 to 12 – by the Tobacco Factory in Ponte di Mezzo and then – from 15 to 17 – in Oltrarno. Again on Friday 26, from 3 to 5 pm, from the Manifattura Tabacchi in Ponte di Mezzo and on Saturday 27, from 10 to 12, in Oltrarno.
