The train line between Toulouse and Barcelona is over
Rail operators Renfe and SNCF have announced the final end of the train line between Toulouse and Barcelona. It did not meet “commercial objectives”.
It’s finish. The direct train line between Toulouse and Barcelona was suspended two years ago because of the Covid-19 epidemic. Rail operator Renfe-SNCF, jointly owned by SNCF and its Spanish counterpart, Renfe, has announced the final shutdown of the link, as reported the Spanish daily Diari de Tarragona (link in Spanish).
The news was given a few days ago by the new CEO of Renfe-SNCF, David Cortés. He announced it on the occasion of the presentation of the offer of the operator which manages the international connections between France and Spain for the year 2022.
“Renfe-SNCF Coopération does not plan to resume the line the Toulouse-Barcelona route due to low demand on this route and directs travelers to Narbonne”, writes the Spanish daily. From Narbonne, French travelers can travel to Barcelona. For their part, passengers coming from Barcelona can continue their journey on the regional SNCF lines.
Hosteltur tourist magazine (link in Spanish) also writes that “David Cortés stresses that (the return of the line between Toulouse and Barcelona, editor’s note) will depend on demand and recalls that the line was ‘difficult’ and would not meet ‘commercial objectives’.”
