In Belgium, more than one in two people buys a house before the age of 31
More than one in two Belgians buy a house before their 31st birthday, according to a study of 1,005 chosen by TopCompare and carried out by the Profacts office. Another notable fact, the number of owners reached 70.8% of respondents. This makes Belgium the country with the highest rate of ownership compared to borderline countries. This number is higher in Flanders (74.5%) than in Wallonia (66.6%) and Brussels (63.3%).
Behind Belgium are the Netherlands (69.1%), Luxembourg (68.4%), France (64%) and finally Germany (50.4%).
If the purchase of a house is rather anecdotal between the ages of 18 and 21 (4.9%), it increases for those aged 22 to 25 (24%) and reaches a peak for those aged 26 to 30 (33, 1%). The percentage then only decreases for 31 to 35 (20.4%), 36 to 40 (8.1%) and 41 to 50 (6.1%). Only 3.3% of Belgians buy real estate after 50 years and 14.1% of citizens questioned do not wish to buy real estate.
The purchase of real estate is mainly the subject of a future project in a couple. Indeed, 65% of owners bought with their spouse, against 31.3% alone. Finally, 3.7% were purchased with a family member.
To finance their property, granting a mortgage is essential for nearly nine out of ten Belgians (89.7%). More than half of Belgians (56.8%) receive less than 21% of their salary as part of their purchase plan.
