Rimini rises to 11th place among the greenest cities in Italy, obtaining the best result ever
Rimini still improves its performance and touches the top ten of the most ecologically virtuous cities in the country. Confirming the city’s green growth is the 28th edition of the Legambiente Urban Ecosystem report published today in Il Sole 24 Ore, which photographs the environmental performance of the 105 provincial capitals of Italy, examining 18 indicators grouped into 5 macro-areas (air , water, environment, waste, mobility). Classification therefore refers to the year of Covid which, however, on a national scale does not seem to have had a particular impact on phenomena related to the environment. Rimini improves its performance by three positions compared to the previous one, passing from 14th to 11th place, the best result ever. The positive trend of recent years is therefore consolidated, which has seen Rimini the protagonist of constant and progressive growth, which has led from the 50th position in 2010 to the 31st position in 2014, to the 23rd in 2019, up to the leap among the top 15 cities of The greener Italy.
Since it also ranks it among the best in an already virtuous region such as Emilia Romagna, which has two capitals in the top ten (Reggio Emilia and Parma). Also by analyzing the individual indicators we find confirmation of some trends. In the macro thematic area “Environment” the seventh position of Rimini stands out for the extension of pedestrian areas (1.1 m2 per inhabitant, in 2020 it was 0.9 m2), as well as the use of solar thermal and photovoltaic (18 ° , with 8.1 Kw on public buildings per thousand inhabitants). The performance in terms of mobility was also positive, despite the effect of the pandemic conditions on public transport: the offer held up (19th), as did the number of passengers (20th). The motorization rate is also stable with 62.3 cars per 100 inhabitants (29 °), while it is 15.6 m per 100 inhabitants. The size of a tourist city, although scaled down last year by the pandemic, is reflected in some dynamics such as the production of municipal waste, where Rimini ranks 100th. To counteract the constant growth of separate waste collection, which sees Rimini jump from 32nd to 26th place, with 71.7% of differentiated waste (it was 68.8%).
If at the country level the dispersion of water and holes in the water network emerge as critical, Rimini is among the most positive realities, with attention to the dispersion of the water network (16th for smaller difference between water fed into the network and consumed for civil uses , industrial, agricultural), with a high purification capacity (95%, 47th position). Trend in line with the other years for air quality (PM10), with Rimini registering an average annual concentration of 29 ug / mc, as well as the average of the national levels of the data on the level of ozone and dioxide concentration carbon. “The numbers give an account of a path of change resulting from a design started years ago and which is also visible today – underlines the Councilor for the Environment of the Municipality of Rimini Anna Montini – Attention to sustainability and the environment that has had in the water and sewage rehabilitation plan, which is currently being completed, his most demanding project, a symbol of a new way of approaching the territory and urban regeneration policies. The new sewer system, the renaturalization of the waterfront with the advancement of the Parco del Mare, the expansion of urban green areas, the extension of the network of cycle paths and pedestrian areas, investments in sustainable mobility are not a point of arrival, but a platform on which to start the strategic planning of a development that has the ecological transition at its center, the real challenge to which cities are called today. With an ambitious goal: to help address environmental emergencies and improve the quality of life of citizens at the same time ”.
