The first of Battistolli, the triumph of Andreucci
The first overall victory of Alberto Battistolli, the twelfth Italian title of a legendary career for Paolo Andreucci. These are the verdicts of the twelfth edition of Rally Liburna, last round of the Italian championship.
To give a decisive turning point to the race and above all to the duel for the tricolor land, it was the street exit of Umberto Scandola. The driver from Verona, at the wheel of a Hyundai i20 R5, was the big favorite for the final victory but a mistake during the second special stage made a compromise both for the Tuscan race and for the whole season. Alberto Battistolli and Paolo Andreucci took advantage of this. The young driver from Vicenza, son of art and great promise of Italian rallying, took the lead of the race, on the first special stage of the second stage.
At the wheel of a Skoda Fabia R5, Battistolli won 4 of the 7 special stages on the second day, closing with almost ten seconds ahead of Andreucci. An impeccable race for the Garfagnana driver. No mistakes, no flaws and above all a careful management of a second place that is worth the Italian land title. To complete the Liburna podium, another Skoda Fabia R5, that of South American Bruno Bulacia.
just off the podium, Simone Campedelli. The rider from Romagna ran into a series of small mistakes that made him waste precious time. A race that showed past, present and future of Italian rallying. From Paolo Andreucci who at 56 takes the luxury of celebrating yet another Italian title to Alberto Battistolli, a 24-year-old driver from Vicenza whom we will surely hear about.
