In the early hours of the morning on Sunday night, there was an apartment fire in St. Johann in Salzburg. A man was trapped in an attic apartment in the downtown apartment and office building and did not survive.
At 2:47 a.m., the St. Johann im Pongau fire brigade was alerted to an apartment fire in the attic apartment of a combined residential and commercial building in the city center.
When the emergency services arrive, the apartment is already in a full fire. Thick smoke came from the skylights. One person was missing. The chief fire inspector Johann Überbacher could therefore immediately raise the alarm to level three and thus re-alert the Schwarzach fire brigade.
Respirators found lifeless person
A respiratory protection team immediately went through the stairwell and began looking for people. With the help of the thermal imaging camera, the lifeless person in the totally smoky apartment could be located and taken outside after a short time. She was handed over to the emergency medical team and taken to the hospital. It is a 47-year-old German citizen.
At the same time as the search for people, another respiratory protection team began fighting the fire. In addition, an external attack was carried out via the aerial rescue platform. Subsequently, the turntable ladder and the breathing apparatus from Bischofshofen were requested for support. In order to extinguish the fire, the roof structure had to be opened. This required the use of numerous respiratory protection teams and both aerial rescue devices. The mission lasted until the early hours of the morning. A total of 121 men from the fire brigade, ambulance and police were on duty.
