Minister of the Interior Agnė Bilotaitė says that she understands the concern about the situation on the border with Belarus, but emphasizes that migrants should not be allowed to be used as a weapon against Lithuania and the European Union.
“It simply came to our notice then today in action in Vilnius concerns about the situation on the Belarusian border. The situation here is very complicated (…) we cannot allow migrants to be like against Lithuania and the European Union, that the organized flows of migrants would violate our national security, ”the Minister said in the comment sent.
“Therefore, Lithuania will continue to defend itself against the flow of illegal migration organized by the Belarusian regime,” she added.
According to her, Lithuania can help “the people misled by the Belarusian regime” as much as possible.
“Reversible migrants are provided with all the necessary assistance – Lithuanian border guards provide them with food, water, clothes and sleeping bags, and medical assistance is provided if necessary. The Ministry of Social Security and Labor, together with non-governmental organizations, prepares humanitarian aid packages, ”said A. Bilotaitė.
She claims that the Lithuanian border is closed for illegal migration, and asylum can be applied for in Lithuania in legal ways.
The Minister recalls that migrants may be admitted for humanitarian purposes, despite the policy of reversal.

“Humanitarian reasons can be various, but one of the most important is the state of human health, a real threat to his health and life,” the Minister of the Interior said.
