Toulouse: snail operation on the ring road this Saturday afternoon against the ZFE
Motorcyclists and motorists demonstrate this Saturday from 2:30 p.m. on the Toulouse ring road to obtain a relaxation of the Low Emission Zone which will exclude the most polluting vehicles. Meanwhile in town there will be a climate march to demand “actions”.
“We are not against the ZFE but for a development”, pleads Florent Capoulade, one of the spokespersons of the movement. After several biker demonstrations, this Saturday, for the first time, a larger rally is being organized against the forthcoming implementation of a zone that excludes the most polluting vehicles, the Low Emission Zone, in Toulouse and up to the Arc-en-ciel ring road. Associations of bikers, collectors, professionals, stables … The snail operation will begin this Saturday, November 6, around 2:30 p.m., on the ring road from Sesquières with three stops that must disrupt traffic: up to Ernest-Wallon, Purpan and the Cité de l’Espace.
“Interclub ZFE 31”, which stigmatizes “a punitive ecology”, puts forward a series of proposals. Bikers, “who fluidify traffic and limit pollution”, ask for an exemption. Like the owners of vintage vehicles, vehicles that are rarely used.
For owners of cars affected by the ZFE (individuals CritAir 4 from 2023), the applicants want the part of the ring road or not to be included. They want a waiver on weekends and after 7pm. And ask for an experiment for “leisure” use of all vehicles, that is to say outside the home-work journey.
Basically, Florent Capoulade says he is “in favor of the ecological transition” but “not in a forced march leaving aside a whole part of the population who does not have the means to buy new vehicles. “
More new routes
This Saturday is another event, also linked to the issue of the environment. To make themselves heard during COP26, environmental movements around the world are calling for a day of action. In Toulouse, a march for the climate will take place at 2:26 p.m. from Place du Capitole at the local call of Alternatiba, Greenpeace, Youth For Climate, ANV-COP21, etc.
In general, the demonstrators want “actions” and a “change” of the system “. Locally, they demand neither more nor less “the abandonment of projects for new roads for cars and trucks” which lead to the arrival of new vehicles “and for this in particular turn to Toulouse Métropole and the departmental council.
