Toulouse: Rue des Polinaires, a construction site is causing many dissatisfaction
Since September, the rue des Polinaires has been closed due to network remediation work. Traders and motorists growl.
Since September 22, we no longer drive rue des Polinaires, in the Carmelite district. Since that date, the Eau de Toulouse Métropole company has been carrying out rehabilitation work on the entire sewerage network in this street in the city center. For information, a sign is installed at the entrance. From now on, the cars coming from Carmelites can no longer go towards Dalbade via this small street but take the streets of Languedoc and Ozenne. A situation which of course created big traffic jams, especially during peak periods, early in the morning or late afternoon. “It has become hellish, admits a local resident. The whole side of the market is blocked. The site sign, however clearly visible at the entrance to the street, is not always seen. Some drivers engage and must quickly back up. It is a real chaos at least until Christmas it seems. He adds: “And let’s not talk about the scooters and motorcycles which defy the ban and get on the sidewalk to cross the street anyway.”
Nuisance and dust
A situation which obviously also impacts the traders of this street: “A lot of customers no longer come,” notes Xavier, real estate agent. And the few who push the door of the agency, struggle to make themselves heard. Not to mention the dust ”.
Further on, the owner of Crazy Store, a brand specializing in vaping equipment, had to postpone the opening of his new store, without really knowing when he will be able to raise the curtain. And let’s not talk about the galley of delivery people like Jean-Marc: “During this work, I park at Les Carmes, I take the devil and I deliver on foot, individuals and traders. It’s not easy and I’m wasting a lot of time, ”he laments. According to the town hall, “these very delicate works, linked both to the resumption of the 17 sewerage connections and to the presence in the basement of many networks (electricity,) but also to the narrowness of the street, must last until mid-December. Cost: € 250,000 “. Drivers will have to take their troubles patiently.
