” Launaguet is a town relatively green but with some urban parts that need to be revegetated“, Estimates Natacha Marchipont, environmental assistant at the town hall of this commune located near Toulouse.
To overcome this observation and at the initiative of the elected official, the municipality launched a campaign of crowdfunding in order to create a micro-forest.
“Put green in the middle of the concrete”
“We have identified a communal area in order to be able to ‘put green in the middle of the concrete’,” explains Natacha Marchipont. And it’s a city park who was chosen to develop the project. “The Parc des Cerisiers is a place with very little ‘trees’, with little greenery, whereas it was originally intended to be a place of life, where people meet, close to schools, ”explains the elected representative.
A Miyawaki-type forest
Ash trees, walnut trees, lime trees, or even maple trees, these are 1,000 trees that need to be planted, spread over 400 square meters. A low density forest therefore, which is based on the Japanese model Miyawaki. “It’s a high concentration of trees in a small space. Thus, they self-manage, and help each other to push. In three years, we should have the equivalent of a ten-year-old forest“, Explains Natacha Marchipont.
Bringing the park back to life
With this micro-forest, the city of Launaguet pursues several objectives, including that of revive this park. “We hope that this will make people want to come together and that the park will become, why not, a place of cultural activities”, confides the environmental assistant of Launaguet. But beyond this issue, the elected representative in charge of the project puts her finger on two other advantages provided through the creation of this micro-forest:
“The trees will buy islands of freshness, which is all the more necessary with the scorching heat that it is in summer. fauna, especially for birds “.
1,400 euros already collected
The project, made possible thanks to the support of the association ” Toulouse in transition“, Is also counting on the crowdfunding launched by the town hall of Launaguet.
1400 euros have already been harvested. “It’s a good way to involve those who wish to participate in a project related to the environment,” said Natacha Marchipont.
The town hall invites residents (and all those who wish) to participate in tree planting, on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 December 2021.
