A 17th century powder factory transformed into a shopping center
The old gunpowder factory in Maromme (Seine-Maritime), near Rouen, has found a new use, reports
76 News. The 17th century establishment had been rebuilt several times following various explosions before being transformed into a spinning mill two centuries later.
This time, this place of local heritage has taken the form of a hybrid zone mixing different shops and activities. Named the Royal Poudrerie, it was produced by the company la Métropolitaine, which owns and manages it.
An evolving neighborhood
The space is composed of a bakery with a catering area of 450 m². In the interior gallery there is an optician, a gym, insurance and a nursery, lists the information site. The Metropolis also had a reception for customers of the water service. Finally, a complete concierge with laundry and vending machine is also present. Two premises are still waiting to find tenants.
The establishment of this space is part of a more global project to restructure the district, specifies the local media. The Friche Lucien, located at the end of the gallery, is also the subject of work to become an “urban guinguette” which offers concerts and board games, among others.
