Toulouse. A week after his deportation, a family still lives with five in a car
If they were able to breathe for two days thanks to the solidarity of a reader of the Dispatch, Belkacem and his family find the street on Friday. They were evicted from their accommodation, rue de Bruxelles in Toulouse, last Thursday.
“Thanks to solidarity, we were able to breathe for two nights, but Friday evening we will sleep in the car again,” says Belkacem. For a week, this father, his wife and their three young children, aged 15 months to 6 years, have been living in the street following a court decision. They were evicted last Thursday after a complaint from the manager of their apartment, Soliha31, after a succession of unpaid rents.
Unemployed, Belkacem has not yet found accommodation. Five of them sleep with his family in a Renault Scenic parked in the parking lot of his residence, rue de Bruxelles, in Toulouse. In addition, the cold that reigns at night made their baby sick. “My daughter has marks on her feet, she is coughing. The situation is getting worse and for the moment no one is finding a solution”, assures Belkacem.
Emergency meeting this Tuesday
This fifty-something has made multiple calls to 115, without result. But a problem could be found on Tuesday. “I have an appointment with the town hall of Toulouse at the beginning of the week, on 115, a social worker and my lawyer to discuss” he testifies, very worried.
In the meantime, they were able to count on the nice gesture of a reader of the Dépêche du Midi. “After the publication of the article, a man managed to contact us. We sleep at his place for two days. It’s very nice,” says the dad.
At the same time, Me Christian Etelin, the council of Belkacem, reserves the right to file a complaint against the prefecture of Haute-Garonne which has, according to the statements of this lawyer, the obligation to provide shelter for the children of this family. “This is unacceptable! Something must be done for them!” He storms. For its part, the prefecture of Haute-Garonne has still not responded to our requests.
