Commenting on futsal transmitted the football virus to Wissam Ben Yedder
A few hours before the reception of PSV Eindhoven at the Stade Louis-II (6:45 p.m.), the Monegasque captain confided in an interview with the UEFA website. He notably addressed his debut on the 5-a-side football pitches.
He started with “real football”, the one that is played in the street or in a hall. In his native Paris region, he discovered what was to become more than a passion, a profession! Before facing PSV Eindhoven at the Stade Louis-II, on the occasion of the 4th day of the Europa League, a competition that he particularly appreciates (15 games, 10 goals and 2 assists), Wissam Ben Yedder agreed to take a look in the rearview mirror.

Futsal, a philosophy
In an interview granted to the UEFA website, he remembers his debut with the ball at the foot, five against five. “It’s true that this futsal player label has always followed me. When I was little, I played on the edge of my city, in small spaces, small fields. I forged myself in this. And when I left for the foot at 11, I was exhausted (smile). I would come back and go to futsal feeling tired. But now, I was happy, ”says number 10 of the Red and White, stars in his eyes.
Captain Wissam
Today captain of AS Monaco, the man with 107 goals in Ligue 1, explains what this status implies for him. “When I arrived in Monaco, it was a new challenge for me, with new responsibilities too, being captain, even though I had already been to Toulouse. I try to play this role with my heart and a lot of respect for AS Monaco. We do it for the Club, for example, because then there will be young people who will wear this armband in my place, ”he anticipates.
When I was a kid I dreamed of playing a lot of games. But I honestly didn’t think I would do so much, although I won’t stop. I will continue to do the maximum, to pass the bar of the highest level.

A 50th but with AS Monaco in sight?
After more than ten years spent at the highest level, he also admits that he would never have imagined passing the bar of 400 pro games, which he crossed in the first leg against Eindhoven, for the 200th European match of club history. “When I was a kid I dreamed of playing a lot of games. But I honestly didn’t think I would do so much, although I won’t stop. I will continue to do the maximum, to pass the bar of the highest level, because I have no limits, so I will go to the end ”, end of the one who could well register this week his 50th but with the Diagonal on the shoulders.
