About the film on its website of the Polish Film Institute (PISF): “In 43 a member of the Polish government in exile 19, Szmul Zygielbojm, wrote a suicide in London. The investigation by the British coroner provides the basis for knowing his fate. The fact that Zygielbojm’s suicide was an act of despair because of the indifference of the Allied states to the extermination of Jews. “
“Szmul Zygielbojm continued as a moral signpost, but also a remorse for those that instead of rushing to help, they turned the counter (…). The Allied world remained indifferent to the crimes of the Holocaust, it was indifferent to Warsaw walks and the destruction of the ghetto. To go move, to write with it, to take his own life. He did what was his moral imperative, “wrote Marek Edelman, the last living leader of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising in 1943 in a letter read on September 25, 2008.
As noted on the PFN website, “the reason to answer an important and somewhat forgotten history in Poland has become one of the most famous events in the history of Polish Jews and one of the most dramatic manifestations of protest against the indifference of + the civilian world + to the Jewish extermination.”
