The balance sheet of the Zerva administration for the financial year 2020 was approved by a majority, but also with strong criticism from the opposition, during the special meeting of the Thessaloniki municipal council.
The Deputy Mayor of Finance, Michalis Koupkas, presented the main financial figures, noting that the total balance sheet amounts to 566 million euros. “This is a completely realistic balance sheet, not inflated at all,” said the deputy mayor, adding that within two years the administration of Konstantinos Zervas managed to reduce waste, seek new sources of revenue, utilize European resources and programs, take a package of measures. . financial relief, while paying past debts, repaying all arrears to suppliers and contractors and proceeding to a further reduction of municipal fees.
Criticism from the opposition
Criticism from the opposition focused on the works for the benefit of the citizens with George Orfanos, from the faction “Thessaloniki is the Future” to speak of “lack of orientation of the city”, while on behalf of the “People’s Rally”, the Michalis Konstantinidis, said, that “for another year the functions of the municipality were financed by the backs of the citizens”.
Vassilis Gakis, from the “Thessaloniki Responsibly” faction, asked for more weight to be placed on the needs of the citizens, Michalis Tremopoulos, from the “Ecology Solidarity” faction, said that “the needs are many and the possibilities are limited”, while the Elli Chrysidou, municipal councilor with the faction of Katerina Notopoulou, added that the Zerva administration “did not take any action to upgrade the public space, on the contrary it abolished projects from the previous administration”. The special meeting began with a minute of silence in memory of Maria Agathangelidou – the municipal councilor who passed away on October 21 – but also the president of KINAL Fofi Gennimata.
A little earlier, the mayor, Konstantinos Zervas, the president of the municipal council, Petros Lekakis, but also the head of the “Thessaloniki Together” association, Katerina Notopoulou, symbolically left a red rose in the place where the late municipal councilor was sitting.
