Prague presents a strategy to accelerate the transition to a circular economy
Following the example of other European cities
On November 2, Prague presented its strategy for the transition to a circular economy. WITH Prague issue 2030The Czech capital is trying to reduce the consumption of primary raw materials, greenhouse gas emissions and waste production. To do this, you will focus on 4 main areas: agriculture and food, waste management, water management and construction.
The construction industry works mostly waste of the capital
m Prague revealed in a press release that the construction and industry consumes the most resources and primary raw materials. It is further stated that it supplies 70% of the capital’s waste.
As a result, the municipality will now increase its efforts to reduce the waste generated in this sector. In particular, it lays down, inter alia, requirements for the demolition of buildings and the use of recycled materials.
find inspiration in smart cities
In preparing the Circular Prague 2030 strategy, the capital sought inspiration in modern cities such as Amsterdam, London, Paris, Copenhagen and Glasgow. To expand, Prague hopes to follow the city’s examples above and introduce new policies to prevent food waste.
In order for the Czech city to support the family, so that they do not throw away things they no longer need or not, they will set up more a re-use center that will support and share products. Deputy Mayor of the Environment Petr Hlubuček explained the concept of the circular economy:
“The circular economy represents a new approach to the management of raw materials and products. Rather than the way in which humans extract, process, use and dispose of raw materials, it emphasizes the prevention of waste and the preservation of raw materials and products for as long as possible. “As far as possible.”
In addition, Hlubuček adds that the creation of circular economies will provide opportunities for new jobs, services and innovation. For this reason, it calls on all citizens, businesses and research institutes to make the transition and accelerate.
