You might not have noticed it, but by the start of 2021, Indigo Weel’s purple and white bikes had all but disappeared from circulation, in Toulouse. Since the beginning of October, they have gradually reappeared in the streets of the Pink City.
“We had a problem with the padlocks,” explains Marine Jager, operations manager for Indigo Weel, in Toulouse. They didn’t close properly and we always had our bikes stolen. “
The entire fleet withdrawn
As in all the other cities where it is established, the company was therefore forced to withdraw its entire fleet of self-service bicycles without stations. New cadences were introduced, the app was redesigned and changes were made to the bikes.
“Now we only have bicycles with stick wheels, no more spokes which are more fragile. ‘Was dangerous.’
350 bikes in circulation, smaller area
Since the beginning of October, these improved improvements are gradually being reintroduced into Toulouse. 350 are currently in circulation and Indigo Weel assures that it is no longer confronted with problems of theft and deterioration previously known.
“We have also reduced the area where we can collect or drop off the bikes,” says Marine Jager.
Agreements with companies?
If the reintroduction continues under good conditions, 350 new bikes could be put into circulation to bring to 700 the bikes available in “free floating” in the Pink City. A figure well below what Indigo Weel has proposed in the past: up to 2,000 white and purple bikes circulated in Toulouse.
However, Toulouse is the only city where the Indigo Weel free-floating bikes have been returned to the public domain. As in other metropolises, the company is also looking for new avenues of development. “We now offer large fleets of bicycles to businesses,” says Marine Jager. For example, we have an agreement with the Airbus company on its Marignane site. Discussions are underway with companies in Toulouse. “
At the same time, the company still continues to offer electric scooters for rent, on the same principle as the bicycle. 400 are currently in circulation in the Pink City. A call for expressions of interest has been launched by the Métropole de Toulouse and Indigo Weel should soon be submitted to competition at Toulouse, for scooters.
