Toulouse: how the town hall will temporarily ban outdoor concerts
The City of Toulouse has informed several music organizers that electro music concerts will be temporarily banned on three sites.
Three sites in Toulouse, the Great Plain, Pech David and the Port de l’Embouchure, used to host, twice a month, from April to October, outdoor electro music concerts, no longer receive authorization from the city. This is the decision to temporarily suspend the price by the City of Toulouse on October 18.
This letter sent to about fifteen concert organizers encountered in question the noise pollution and the inconvenience caused: “It is a temporary decision linked to many complaints from the mayors of these districts, justifies Jonnhy Dunal, municipal councilor in charge of the ‘event. The holding of these concerts on these sites is linked to certain strict measures: a decibel rate limited to 90, compliance with closing times (11 p.m. on weekdays and midnight on weekends) and a cleaning of the site after the concert. As many points which seem they would not have been taken into account and which gave rise to overflows ”. He adds: “Of course, Toulouse must remain faithful to its image of an attractive, dynamic and festive city, but not to the detriment of the life of certain districts”. These concerts can bring together more than 1000 people and cause big problems when it comes to car parking and accessibility.
The dialogue continues between the town hall and the organizers
On the organizers’ side, the decision goes wrong. All the more so after the covid period and the many confinements. According to them, “the concerts end at midnight and only take place once a year. Local residents therefore do not always have the presence of music. In addition, we have repeatedly requested a report on noise pollution from the City. We never got an answer ”.
These organizers are also worried about the consequences that the absence of these musical events could generate on the city in terms of attendance.
Anyway, this ban, which is only temporary, must be the subject of discussions between the City of Toulouse and the organizers. “We must identify sites likely to be able to receive these musical events in peace and while preserving as much as possible the tranquility of the residents”, specified the elected official who has set up a service in charge of finding an adequate site which can receive more than 1000 people and music at 80 decibels.
