Even before the second leg against Salzburg, VfL Wolfsburg’s U19s were under a lot of pressure and had to be won against the Austrians if the wolves wanted to keep a chance to advance. The Salzburg team thwarted coach Christian Wimmer’s team relatively early on, because captain Wallner scored after a corner to make it 0: 1 from VfL’s point of view (8th).
The result was a rough game in which there were frequent interruptions. In addition, both teams change due to injuries up to the 22nd minute, guests from Salzburg even die twice. Until the break, harmless Wolfsburgs also had no significant chance of scoring, while Reischl could have made it 2-0 again after a corner (24th).
Baidoo brings the decision
Shortly after the restart came the next setback for the Wolves, because Heller was sent off with a smooth red after a hard climb against Havel (47th). Outnumbered, VfL managed to equalize, as Busch finished dryly into the short corner after a remarkable sprint over half the field (54th).
Wolfsburg held up until stoppage time, before the substitute Baidoo made the decision shortly before the end (90 + 4). The wolves remain bottom of the table in group G and have no real chance of advancing. Next up in the youth league is the away game in Seville (November 23, 4 p.m.).
