Sexual abuse in the NHL: Ex-Salzburg legionnaire was a victim
Since autumn became public for the first time in June of this year, many lies have been told in the media, the victim emphasized. “It is good that the truth has now come to light.”
In an interview with TSN Beach also told tearfully how he dealt with the incident at the time. “I told my parents shortly afterwards. My mother cried and felt responsible. She thought she should have protected me from when. But she couldn’t. We never talked about it again until recently.”
“I then did what I thought was right to survive, to keep following my dream. That was not to think about it, not to talk about it and to ignore it.”
Resignation and club declaration
The first personal consequences of the case already occurred on Wednesday: Stan Bowman, General Manager of the Blackhawks since 2009 and apparently well informed in 2010 and partly responsible for keeping the case in the dark, has resigned from his position in Chicago as well as general manager of the US Olympic ice hockey team.
The Blackhawks Club also commented: “As a club, we deeply regret what Kyle Beach went through and apologize for the mistake of not reacting immediately when he raised the matter in 2010.” Not having acted immediately was absolutely unacceptable, emphasized the association in its statement. “No play-off game or a championship title is more important than protecting our players from attacks like this.”
The NHL penalized the Blackhawks with a $ 2 million fine.
