Toulouse: Goodbye ships, trains and planes in scale models
The Idéals Models brand, specializing in models and model making, boulevard Carnot, closes on October 30. A similar store could open in Dupuy.
For several weeks, Claude Carrière has been sent alone to his shop on Boulevard Carnot. On October 30, the Model Idéals brand, created in 1970 and specializing in model making and model making, will close permanently. A family story that comes to an end, subject to the real estate law: the building that houses this business is subject to demolition. So Claude, who, in 1986, took over from his father, a philosopher, was right: “This is how I am 61 years old, it is easier to say goodbye”. This trader will benefit from eviction indemnities before going on pre-retirement. Despite everything, a little pinch is noticeable in this sixty-year-old: “This shop was the den of all enthusiasts. She was the only one to offer ship model making, miniature cars, helicopters, liners, drones, trains, or even, more original, retail wood sought by students of the school of architecture. This shop was a mystery to customers. From the sidewalk, they watched it, fascinated, wondering about its content. “
Another store in town?
From now on on the empty counters, still line up some boxes at the sale price: “The majority of the stock is liquidated. I was able to enjoy it until the end ”. In recent years, the model building market has exploded. Thousands of miniature machines are sold, attracting young and old alike. Model making, which reproduces an object identically in a reduced model, is a consuming passion for some: “The manufacture of a reduced model requires patience and precision. No detail should escape you, Claude attests. These objects appeal to the child who lies dormant in us ”. Small consolation: another model shop created by former clients of Ideal Models could see the light of day on rue des Frères Lion in the Dupuy district. “For the moment this is only a project, assures Claude, but it seems to be well under way. In any case, I look forward to it ”.
