This is a concept that will make people talk Toulouse ! Open in June 2021 in the Montaudran district, a stone’s throw from the B612, the Gourmet Wasteland switches to winter mode. Its managers, Philippe Blanchot and Guillaume Souloumiac, operate a beautiful area of 1200 m2 with a huge 750 m terrace2.
A place that runs all year round
“On a fact a beautiful season this summer. Despite the competition with the many taverns, the people of Toulouse were seduced by the place which brings together a very large clientele: families, couples, companies, groups of friends … The difference with the other taverns is that our place runs year round. And for this winter, we aim to continue to enjoy this beautiful terrace! “, Launches Guillaume Soulougnac, who opened a first gourmet wasteland in Lille in 2018 with his partner.
Igloos and cable cars
To do this, the Friche gourmande Toulouse is developing a concept that is at the very least original and play the winter card thoroughly ! From Tuesday, November 2, 2021 and until March 15, 2022, the terrace will be equipped with 13 igloos and 7 cable cars, which will be available for booking. 20 private spaces that immerse you directly in the world of a ski resort.
“The idea was to create comfortable and comfortable spaces. We were inspired by a similar project in London, where they created a nice place with igloos. For the gondolas, I went to the Alps, to Haute-Savoie, to meet the manager of a company that buys gondolas and repairs them. We bought a few for this winter! », Emphasizes Guillaume Soulougnac.
Concretely, the igloos can accommodate 6 to 8 people, and the cable cars 6 people. ” It is necessary to count 8 euros per person to access it and we offer a cocktail, a glass of wine of a beautiful appellation or a pint of beer. And for the children, they are offered a large drink of their choice, ”explains the manager. But that’s not all !
Raclette galore and curling rink
To push the ski atmosphere to the end, La Friche Gourmande will offer throughout the winter raclettes, which can only be tasted in the cable cars and igloos. Count 19 euros per person for a raclette with potatoes at will.
Let those who are cautious be reassured: “There will be small additional heaters inside the igloos and the cable cars. We didn’t want to put heaters everywhere, which are very energy-intensive and inefficient. But the air volume being limited, there will be no need to heat these spaces for very long ! And outside, we will cover the courtyard and install unit heaters that will heat the space well, ”explains Guillaume Souloumiac.
A curling rink will also be available on site to indulge in the most curious of winter sports! “We don’t see too many of them in France! The supplier, which we unearthed in Switzerland, installs PVC panels which have the same sliding power as snow ”, further notes the manager.
Street-food, bars and indoor entertainment
A inside, if the decoration will also switch to winter mode, the Friche does not change its concept: on the program, street food, bar, games, DJ’s and entertainment. On the catering side, three counters of renowned establishments in the Pink City are present: one run by the french bagels, the other by Pizza López and the last by The guys at the truck.
And on the entertainment side? “We will continue to broadcast Champions League matches, mainly on Wednesdays. Thursday evening, it will be after work with DJ. Friday evening, we bring in DJs from different places: groups from Toulouse and other cities. Saturday night is mainly intended for birthdays and groups of friends who want a drink and a bite to eat. Always with a DJ party! », Guillaume Soumouniac concludes.
