The north-west area of Toulouse will be the subject of a regional workshop, to imagine the future of the airport platform. The launch of the process was announced by Etienne Guyot, Prefect of the Occitanie region.
“Growth with particular intensity”
In a press release, the prefect recalls that “the Toulouse area is experiencing a very strong growth for several decades ”, but mentions a specific area. “If the entire living area is experiencing the same phenomenon, it is expressed with particular intensity in the western sector of Toulouse.”
Companies, industries, equipment: the airport platform brings together the pillars of the Toulouse and regional economy.
Existing constraints: they are linked to aerial overflights, strongly conditioning the development of communities. In this highly attractive area, it thus becomes very difficult to anticipate urban developments which always require more space, to plan many trips and to have an impact on the environment.
This is the reason why the one who is also prefect of Haute-Garonne is launching the process ” Territories Workshop“.
Local councilors on the front line
Led by local actors, this mission sees elected officials from local authorities being placed on the front line. ” They are primarily responsible for the development »Justifies Etienne Guyot. A multidisciplinary team is made available by the State.
Based on already existing projects, the approach re-examines visions at different scales along an exploratory journey, and is enriched by contributions made during successive workshops. In this regard, it is translated into proposals for road maps for local authorities and for the State, all of which are coherent as they are relevant to a shared vision and governance.
Associations, representatives of the economic world and agriculture, but also residents and users are involved in this process and are called upon to provide their vision. The workshop ” does not establish leadership from one institution to another ”also warns Etienne Guyot.
Finally, still on the subject of the process, the prefect warns that the election periods of 2022 do not ” will not be conducive to decision making. In the end, an overall duration of 10 to 12 months is integrated, from the launch session that will take place in a few weeks“.
