Asvel bounces back, Monaco overthrows Pau-Orthez

Paris (AFP) – Villeurbanne regained success against Châlons-Reims (94-81) and joined Boulogne-Levallois on Sunday at the top of the Elite. Like the other juggernaut, Monaco, which turned Pau-Orthez at the end of the match (74-66) at the end of the 5th day.
After his first three setbacks of the season, including one on the national scene, in Strasbourg, the defending champion, Asvel corrected the situation.
And Tony Parker’s club owes a lot to the monstrous match of Youssoupha Fall who had already recorded a double double in the middle of the match. The Senegalese pivot, loaned this season by Baskonia, signed his best match with the Rhôdanien club (26 points, 11 rebounds).
Monaco also now has four successes in the league at the cost of a last quarter of madness against Pau-Orthez. Led by 10 points (66-56) in the last period, Zvezdan Mitrovic’s men then followed an 18-0 to Elan Béarnais to win.
All without their star rookie Mike James, the Euroleague’s top scorer in 2019, who was once again left to rest. After five Elite days, the American leader played only one championship match, it was against Levallois (22 pts).
This does not prevent Monaco from being co-leader while clearly giving priority to the Euroleague. The Roca Team will meet her again on Tuesday with the reception of the Red Star Belgrade. Asvel, it welcomes CSKA Moscow the next day
In contrast to the standings, Paris Basket has not chained, a week after the first success in its history in the first division. The capital club lost to Le Mans (92-81).
