looking for noses to track down bad smells
Do you have a thin nose but not using it enough? Know that now you can become “nose jury”. Since October 18, Eau Toulouse Métropole, the service in charge of water management and inter-municipal sanitation, is looking for volunteer residents on its site. Their future mission: to detect and identify bad odors from wastewater from the Ginestous wastewater treatment plant.
A program to reduce odors
You might already smell that sewage smell. For years, “important works of improvements and modernization have been initiated “around the Ginestous plant, specifies Eau Toulouse Métropole. They should make it possible to” limit odor nuisance and improve the quality of local residents “.
In September 2020, the delegation therefore launched a modernization plan for the wastewater treatment plant north of Toulouse. Optimization of deodorization processes, installation of connected sensors, containment of structures, so many works that will be completed by 2022. This plan is also accompanied by a odor reduction program and a “participatory measurement tool”. This tool is you, the gifted local residents.
About twenty selected Toulouse residents
The mission will be simple: use their nostrils to identify bad odors emitted by the wastewater treatment plant. About twenty local residents will be selected. During November, they will be trained for four hours in odor recognition.
They can then declare their nature and intensity in real time using a mobile application. And the agents, them, assure precise monitoring of these odors within a radius of close to 1.5 km, and “adjust the interventions on the structures accordingly”.
What are the conditions for applying?
You are of legal age, you live less than 1.5 km from the factory (located 2 Chemin des Daturas 31200 Toulouse), and you have a smartphone and an internet connection? So go ahead with your fingers in the nose, you can apply!
Registrations are made until October 31. So if you are interested in this experience, go to the website eaudetoulousemetropole.fr in the “News” section, scan the QR Code, or complete the online form. For any additional information, you can send an email to [email protected].
