The dozens of cockroaches living in his cell have made his stay unlivable. Last month a 33-year-old inmate from Seysses prison suffered an ear infection after an insect entered his ear canal. A doctor’s report that we were able to consult confirms the prisoner’s statements. “The clinical examination found an erythematous and inflamed right external duct,” says the specialist who consulted him.
After several painful and distressing nights, this man imprisoned for violence last May is forced to sleep while protecting his ears with a sheet and toilet paper in his ear. “The conditions of my client’s detention are dire. I had to fight for him to be entitled to a refrigerator, then he was the victim of violence, the Covid problem and now cockroaches!” Me Jessica Guy, lawyer son.
An open envelope in front of many witnesses
To move the situation forward and indicate his good faith, the imprisoned father decided to act. At the end of September, during a visit to the salon of his lawyer, and under the gaze of many witnesses, he opened an envelope containing about fifty cockroaches. “The other lawyers present provided me with official testimonies”, warns Me Guy, Evidence in support.

In order to fight against their proliferation, the prison administration has set up traps in each cell. But they are ineffective. Moreover, an action before the administrative court was led by Mes Justine Rucel, Julien Brel, Sébastien Delorge and Celile Brandely, the management of the Seysses detention center is now obliged to strengthen the effectiveness of the protocols.
For his part, the thirty-something victim of an inflammation of the ear canal hopes to benefit from damages.
