Like the 3e underground line, the project of the Airport Express Line will punctuate the daily life of public transport users in Toulouse in recent years.
“Tramway Express” to the Airport
As a reminder, this tram described as “express” by Tisséo will replace the current T2 line. It will run only from Jean-Maga station, to Toulouse-Blagnac airport, on the 2.7 km route of the current T2 line.
“This ‘high frequency’ line will make it possible to reach the airport in 7 minutes from Jean-Maga and will run on the rails of the existing T2 tramway. She will offer a connection to the 3e metro line and tram T1 at the new “Jean-Maga” station, ”says Tisséo.
The frequency will therefore be one train every 5 minutes instead of one train every 15 minutes currently. To do this, Tisséo will buy five new trainsets which will be assigned to the 2.7 km line.
Pendant Line discontinuation more than three years
The commissioning of the Airport Express line will require the interruption of the current T2 line between mid-2023 and the end of 2026.
The T1 line will also evolve
The project also plans to disconnect the T1 tram line with the future Airport Express.
At the same time as the creation of the Airport Express Line, Tisséo will therefore develop the T1 tram line. And the work has started in recent weeks.
Partial terminus at Odyssud
Tisséo is planning the creation of a partial terminus at Odyssud with the maintenance of a frequency of one train every 4.5 minutes before being divided by two after the partial terminus, i.e. one train every 9 minutes on the train. Odyssud – MEETT section.
Start of work in the coming days
To achieve this terminus, the first works will begin with the first major consequences for users.
“From Monday 25 to Wednesday 27 October and from 3 to Friday 5 November 2021, the T1 tram line will be interrupted in its entirety due to the work carried out around the Odyssud station. This work to divert rainwater and wastewater networks, carried out by Toulouse Métropole, is preparatory work for the creation of a partial terminus at Odyssud ”, announces Tisséo.
Relay bus commissioned
To limit the inconvenience, Tisséo announces that relay buses will make connections, every 10 minutes, between the Ancely and MEETT stations:
First departure from Ancely to MEETT: 6:30 a.m.
Last departure from Ancely to MEETT: 12:30 a.m.
First departure from MEETT to Ancely: 6 a.m.
Last departure from MEETT to Ancely: 00 h 00
On the other hand, line T2 is functioning normally. It will provide service to the Palais de Justice – Arènes – Ancely section of the T1 line.
“The frequency of the T2 tram line will also be increased between the Palais de Justice and Toulouse Blagnac airport,” adds Tisséo.
Traffic impacted
Automobile traffic will also be affected. Diversion routes will be put in place during the work. The direction of traffic on rue des Peupliers will be reversed to facilitate traffic in the area.
The interventions were organized during the school holidays, “the least penalizing period for the least impacted car in order to minimize the impact for users of the tram line”, assures Tisséo.
