Athens: Tibetan activists protest against Uighurs
The action of three activists from Tibet during the Touch of the Olympic Flame in Ancient Olympia on Monday, protesting as they say about the genocide of the Uighurs from China, caused a sensation.
Activists stress that the international community’s acceptance of the Beijing Winter Olympics is China’s washout through sport.
“Uighurs are currently undergoing military mobilization in the 21st century, where they are being subjected to torture, sexual abuse and rape, brutal behavior, the uprooting of their families and forced labor,” said Zumretai Arkin, director of the World Bank in Athens.
From Athens, the activists are expressing their complete opposition to the ILO plans.
“The international community’s agreement with the IOC to host the Beijing Winter Olympics is unconscious. So if the international institutions are okay with what is happening, and moving forward, what have we become? Where has the IOC fallen into this scenario? Says Perma Doma, head of the “Students for a Free Tibet” campaign.
Human rights groups have long called for a full boycott of the Beijing Games due to the situation with the Uighurs.
