Leixões thrashes Vilaverdese and advances in the Portuguese Cup
Ohe visitors, who lead the Serie A of the Portuguese Championship without defeats and with 13 points from five games, suffered their first official defeat this season, having resisted Leixonense’s power almost until the break.
Leixões felt some difficulties for about half an hour before a well-organized Länk Vilaverdese team, until Kiki created the first dangerous situation for Pedro Freitas’ goal in the 33rd minute.
Sapara threatened to score in the 41st minute through an individual play and won a corner from which 1-0 would emerge. Kiki hit that corner and Yuri, at the first post, headed hard and opened the scoring, despite Pedro Freitas’s stretch.
Leixões did better in the second half and Kiki made it 2-0 following an insistence move given by Diogo Leitão and a first shot to the left post of the opponent’s goal.
Vilaverdese may complain about the way Baptista missed an open goal in the 53rd minute, not least because Jeferson Encada made it 3-0 two minutes later, finishing off a cross from Kiki’s left.
The visitors reacted and managed to reduce in the 66th minute, by Zé Pedro Cerqueira, who appeared at the far post and took advantage of a poor exit by Stefanovic to head to goal and score.
The goal sparked a little over Vilaverdese, but Leixões ended the doubts that could still exist about the winner through a direct free kick that Thalis turned into 4-1 with a well placed shot.
Luan Santos, another Leixonense substitute who had a taste for this match, as did Encada and Thalis, made the final score in the 76th minute, successfully heading a Seck cross, at a time when Vilaverdense’s windows were almost over. .
