Toulouse. Why L214 activists will demonstrate in front of Jean-Jaurès’ Burger King, Saturday

They shouldn’t be in the previews. Saturday October 16, 2021, the activists of the association for the defense of animals L214, accustomed to punching actions and shocking images, will demonstrate in front of a Burger King from downtown Toulouse, to “pin the brand on its chicken farming practices”.
A happening in the afternoon
In front of the restaurant located at the corner of Boulevard de Strasbourg and allées Jean-Jaurès, opposite the metro exit, L214 will organize, in the afternoon, “a event to denounce the conditions under which are raised and slaughtered chickens for the fast food chain ”. The association carries out this type of operations in 33 cities of France, the day after a large mobilization in front of the Burger King headquarters, in Clichy (Hauts-de-Seine).
“The pompom on the Garonne”
In Toulouse, activists will be dressed in “diverted Burger King outfits”. They promise to find out a five-meter banner long, in front of the restaurant, located in one of the nicest places of the Pink City. The slogan ? “Burger King, talking about animal welfare when you stack your chickens by the thousands is the pompom on the Garonne ”.
Pressure on Burger King
L214 launches for the occasion a campaign to ask the sign to “engage against the worst practices of raising and slaughtering chickens”, but also to “guarantee a part of the outdoors in its supplies”, explains Florence Boyer, campaign coordinator.
She calls on the American burger giant to sign the “European Chicken Commitment”, a text that includes a series of criteria established by around thirty associations “with the aim of reducing the suffering of chickens used in food production”. According to L214, this commitment has already been made by “nearly 100 companies in France, including competitors of the brand”, like KFC, Domino’s Pizza, Paul bakeries, or even Subway. Itself targeted by similar actions in early 2021 in Toulouse, the Subway chain was engaged this summer in the path advocated by the association.
The “King of the burger”, also “King of cruelty”?
Friday, the association also spear a petition Fr line to put pressure on Burger King, and posted on social networks images and a satirical video, where it hijacks the brand’s communication codes: the Burger King logo is there smeared with blood. And the “King of the Burger” is portrayed as “King of cruelty” towards chickens.
