Ruben Aguilar: “It’s going to be a great game”

A first turning point in the season?

The start of the season for both teams was not what we expected, but it is only October, there are a lot of games left. So I don’t know if it’s a turning point, but it’s a very important meeting. Against Lyon, it’s always a bit special but it’s still a very good match. They’re a big team and a direct contender for the top of the table, so we’re going there to have a big game.

Lessons from the last defeat in Lyon (4-1)

I don’t have a good memory of that game, but it taught us a lot. We relied on this game to change some things and move forward. You always have to learn from your mistakes.

The keys to the match

OL this season will look high, play offensively, like us. It’s going to be a great game. We must not make mistakes, it will be played on small details. It’s up to us to be serious, diligent, to respect the instructions of the coach and the staff and I think that this duel will be won by AS Monaco. The team that wants the most will win this match.

It’s my third season here, so I’m proud and happy. And if I can play even more games with AS Monaco, that would be a real pleasure. Even if I admit that I was not aware of this figure (smile).

Its start of the season

Sometimes there are really complicated moments, especially the counter-my-camp at Shakhtar (2-2 ap), it’s part of the life of a high level athlete. But I am fortunate to be well surrounded, at the club and in my family. If we redo the action 100 times, 99 times there will be no but. But it is certain that there is a part of me that will remain in Ukraine, on this ground. I’m not going to hide that it was a complicated period but we had to get back to work to bounce back and have fun again.

The 2022-2023 season calendar

I didn’t look in detail, I just saw that there will be a Boxing Day. I find it attractive, it’s cool. With the World Cup in Qatar (November 21 – December 18) I think it’s hard to plan the games, but I’m happy to play a 1uh January.
