Athlete choice: Carina Edlinger and Red Bull Salzburg awarded
Two awards went to Salzburg in the election for Austria’s Sportsman of the Year on Thursday.
The blind cross-country skier Carina Edlinger in the category “Disabled Athlete of the Year” and Red Bull Salzburg as Team of the Year received the first two awards at the big gala in Vienna.
The 23-year-old from Fuschler Edlinger won the overall World Cup for the fourth time last winter. She won the award for Sportswoman of the Year in 2019. Red Bull Salzburg earned the award – dying eighth in a row in this category with the championship title in a row, the cup win and strong performances on the international stage. Other candidates in the final selection were the ÖSV ski jumping women (Daniel Iraschko-Stolz, Sophie Schorschag, Chiara Kreuzer (Hölzl) and Marita Kramer) and the Nordic combined athletes Johannes Lamparter and Lukas Greiderer.
The handbike Paralympics winner Walter Ablinger is Disabled Athlete of the Year.
Sarah-Maria Baumegger (swimming) and Alexander Flechl (golf) received the awards as Special Olympics Sportsman of the Year.
Even Coach Personality of the Year Gregor Högler, the coach of the Olympic discus athlete Lukas Weißhaidinger, was honored.
Newcomer of the year is the Nordic combined athlete Johannes Lamparter.
