Premium packaging: Sustainable solutions are becoming clearer at Luxe Pack Monaco
At the heart of brand issues, the ecological transition of the luxury cosmetic pack was clearly the main issue of the event. The choice for the most relevant solution was once again fueled by significant innovations.
The mono-material pack to guarantee circularity
The use of one and the same material for the whole of a packaging validates the possibility of recycling. Solutions expected in this direction for the different subjects.
Regarding plastic, Aptar Beauty + Home a presented Pure, tube and cover both in polypropylene (PP) for a fully recyclable assembly, as well as Future launched last May, the first single-material polyethylene (PE) pump for the skincare markets.
On the same approach, Albea highlighted its extruded tubes with high density polyethylene (HDPE) caps, as well as a new range of rigid packs (mascaras, sticks and jars) 100% PP or polyethylene terephthalate (PET) for care and makeup. Also on the front page at Cosmogen, ReUse, a patented stick all in PP, recyclable and refillable, as well as rBrush, a make-up brush entirely in recycled PET and without glue.
Among the materials associated with ecodesign, wood can be considered without adding, especially for hoods at Pujolasos with Woon, cap with screw thread entirely in certified natural wood. Just like with the range Woodacity presented by Quadpack.
Holmen, Swedish giant of the forestry and paper industry with Iggesund, looked into the development of a jar concept with refill for care, exclusively made from wood and its waste. The Conic prototype offers a transparent plastic-looking container made from wood oil while the conical refill is made of wood fiber.
The boxes and wedges are also available in all paper / cardboard versions and without the addition of additional closing elements at Verpack and Cosfibel. For a global vision of its mono-material solutions, Cosfibel has also grouped together within its ReBel collection, 9 boxes of 9 inspiring materials for eco-design ranging from cardboard to cork, including different types of wood (ash, paulownia) or aluminum. Procos, for its part, highlighted the variations of its 100% cardboard Yoga Light e-commerce box.
Texen Beauty Partners launched its skincare and makeup collection in all cardboard, palettes and boxes, sticks and packs for lipsticks. The alternative of FSC certified cardboard guarantees all the functions expected of the packaging: protection, resistance, design, etc.
Everything “aluminum” is also an important line of thought at g. pivaudran for hoods whose ballast and insert are made of aluminum or even partially recycled aluminum. The specialist in this inspiring eco-design material has also reported on its progress in recycled aluminum, an alternative that could soon open up prospects for the production of products in the responsible luxury sector. For his part, Axilone presented the compact case made of 98% aluminum, mirror included.
The luxury of charging
Sometimes still in its infancy from a technical point of view, the “refill” approach is nevertheless gaining ground in all categories.
The glassmaker Bormioli Luigi – which works to balance its activity between the three categories of perfume, skincare and make-up – addresses itself directly to these last two markets with a refillable glass jar containing a removable glass cup that the consumer can buy in shop and replace with a simple gesture.
Same approach for the group Pouch which claims “Luxury differently” with the Odyssée jar, a 2-in-1 jar that combines a case and a lighter glass refill. The refill can be closed by its own recycled plastic cover and thus becomes a nomadic product.
Tubes, airless bottles and sticks for solid formulas, Cosmogenic has declined all the possibilities of use and application in a rechargeable version with the ReUse range and its various independent applicators.
At the house of Aptar Beauty + Home, a trio of rechargeable innovations was presented. The Private Refill, written in lipstick secured with a unique and customizable key which clips and unclips the mechanism and guarantees the brand exclusive use of its refills. To which are added the premium and rechargeable airless solutions: Serumony Reload and Gaïa.
Among the launches, we also note the creation by g.pivaudran of an all-aluminum refillable case for the Cartier Perfume Necessary collection.
Anti-contamination responses
The trend for solutions preserving contact and contamination by bacteria and viruses is emerging through approaches that have become essential to the world of product testing, but also through the coating of packaging.
The society Altus coating, specialized in the creation of UV varnishes, UV lacquers and tints, presented AlSafe, its latest antimicrobial innovation applicable to all surfaces and packaging materials. This UV-drying varnish incorporates a transparent and colorless component which destroys contaminants in the duration. The solution also makes it possible to reduce the use of disinfectant solutions with a compound role in the dissemination of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the atmosphere. This technology is compatible with the use of bio-sourced varnishes.
But, it is of course in retail that the subject takes all its acuteness. For in-store testing in complete safety, the contactless solutions offered by Adhespack, Dapy and Orlandi offer new possibilities.
Inspired by waiting ticket machines, the Ticket technology sent by the Brazilian company Simple and modular, requiring no energy source, it has already been approved by the Puig group for a large number of uses.
For its part, Orlandi presented Multiscent 2.0, a new solution resulting from a technology patented by the Brazilian startup Noar. The innovation lies in the access to a connected diffuser, which can faithfully reproduce, on demand, up to 20 different fragrances, without residues of aerial particles.
Dapy’s patented automatic tester allows a dose of perfume to be delivered directly from the bottle by a vaporizer by motion detection. The tester is adjustable for all perfumes and bottles between 85 and 130 cm in height.
Headdress, pumps and perfumes
Among the other significant launches presented at the show, the Eternal Headdress by Pouch, a premium perfume cap, the components of which (weight, insert, overcap, magnets) can be separated to facilitate recycling.
As well as Aptar’s Inune platform. Compatible with the different spray options of the group (Precious, Silk, HDS or classic), the crimped or screwed Inune mechanism is invisible, without metallic contact with the juice and POM free. By allowing the interchangeability of sprays, the platform offers an axis of innovation through gestures by multiplying the possible variations without inducing additional industrial complexities.
