Toulouse in multicolored for the return of the Pride March
After two years of absence due to the health crisis, the pride march brings together thousands of people.
The gloomy sky of the Pink City has given way to multicolored flags. For the great return of the Pride March, thousands of people marched in the streets of downtown Toulouse in a demanding and festive atmosphere. “We don’t choose to be lesbians, gays, bisexuals, trans, queers or intersex, but we can be proud!”, “Love has no gender”, “Hate is against nature! “,” Gay or not gay, we row together “: these are the messages, among others, that we could read on the various signs in the middle of the procession.
Launched in Toulouse 1994, the main manifestation of the LGBTQI + movement clearly aims to fight against discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity and to gain visibility.
“I am proud to be there with my community. I feel accepted. We need to be given more visibility and that all of this be normalized” confides Justine taking place for the first time at Gay Pride.
In the middle of the parade, 19 characters guided the crowd from Place du Capitole to Square Charles-De-Gaulle via rue Alsace Lorraine or boulevard Lazare-Carnot in favor of egalitarian texts on many societal themes. Among them a tank in the colors of the Departmental Council, partner of the 2021 edition. The community was also present on the associative market to discuss with the public and present the actions implemented in Haute-Garonne.
Faced with the observation of equality still far from being achieved in terms of rights, this day also makes it possible to take into account acts of violence, intolerance and oppression practiced with regard to the multicolored community. “We want to send messages, there are still too many victims of homophobia and transphobia” indignant Laura, faithful to the event. A few days after the unanimous vote of the National Assembly against “conversion therapy” and in a national and international context often hostile to this cause, the pride march reminds us that the fight for fundamental rights and freedoms is a timeless fight that transcends borders and differences.
