Covid-19: Portugal registers 499 new cases, seven deaths and increase in hospitalizations – Coronavirus
Portugal now registers over 499 confirmed cases of infection with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus and seven deaths associated with covid-19, with a slight increase in the number of hospitalizations, according to data from the General Directorate of Health (DGS).
According to the epidemiological bulletin of the DGS released today, 334 people are hospitalized, 13 more than on Saturday, of which 55 in intensive care units, where there have been no changes in the last 24 hours.
Of the deaths registered since Saturday, two occurred in the Lisbon region, one in the North, one in the Center, one in Alentejo and two in the Algarve.
Four of the people who died were over 80 years old and three were between 70 and 79 years old.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, in March 2020, 18,041 people have died in Portugal and 1,075,312 cases of infection have been registered.
The greatest number of deaths continues to be concentrated among the elderly over 80 years old (11,767), followed by the age group between 70 and 79 years old (3,862).
Of the total number of fatalities registered, to date, 9,467 in Portugal were men and 8,573 women.
Data released by the DGS also show that over 171 cases are active, for a total of 30,155, and that 321 people were reported as having recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours, which increases the national total to 1,027,116 recovered.
In the last 24 hours, the number of contacts under surveillance by the health authorities rose (87), standing at 23,518.
The new coronavirus has already infected in Portugal at least 577,688 women and 496,904 men, according to data from the DGS, according to which there are 740 cases of unknown sex, which came under investigation, since this information is not automatically computerized.
Among the new infections, there is an age group from 20 to 29 years (81), 30 to 39 years (over 77), followed by 50 to 59 (over 56), 40 to 49 years (over 52), from 0 to 9 years (over 52), from 10 to 19 (over 48), from 60 to 69 (over 41), from over 80 (37) and from 70 to 79 (over 33).
In the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region, 174 new infections were reported, with 415,419 cases and 7,694 dead so far in this geographic area.
The Northern region registered 160 new infections by SARS-CoV-2, totaling 412,177 cases of infection and 5,573 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic crisis.
In the Center region, 84 more cases were registered, totaling 143,786 infections and 3,157 deaths.
In Alentejo, 39 new cases of infection were reported, totaling 39,438 infections and 1,031 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
In the Algarve region, today’s DGS bulletin counts 34 new cases, accumulating 43,090 infections by SARS-CoV-2 and 471 deaths.
The Autonomous Region of Madeira recorded six new cases, totaling 12,385 infections and 72 deaths due to the covid-19 disease since March 2020.
In the last 24 hours, and according to DGS, the Azores registered two new cases, which raises to 9,017 infections since the beginning of the pandemic. The number of deaths remains at 43.
The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira publish their data daily, which may not coincide with the information published in the DGS bulletin.
Covid-19 has caused at least 4,843,739 deaths worldwide, among more than 237.46 million infections by the new coronavirus registered since the beginning of the pandemic, according to the most recent report by the Agence France-Presse.
The disease is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, detected in late 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China, and currently with variants identified in several countries.
