These 11 Caen residents gave a second life to 127 tons of objects in 2020!

It is a work of undermining against waste. Since 2017, members of the Coop 5 percent a Caen (Calvados), collector of objects for the general public. Objective: to restore them, sell them or assign them to the right recycling channel.
Thus in 2020, the 11 employees of this unprecedented structure, a time set up along the Cours Montalivet before moving to a more comfortable warehouse in 33 route de Trouville, have succeeded in giving a second life to many objects, for a total of 127 tons transformed in total! 93% could be recovered, either for recycling or for reuse.
Within the Coop 5 pour 100 in Caen, many objects recovered, repaired or simply cleaned, are now available for sale. They are distributed in the different areas of the store: crockery and knick-knacks, books, media, toys, household appliances, furniture and miscellaneous (tools, hardware, DIY, sporting goods, gardening, pet store, childcare, stationery, etc.).
Activities in the neighborhoods
From Monday 11 to Sunday 17 October 2021, as part of the national operation “Les Ressourceries reveal their secrets!” », Events are organized all over France, in this type of place. The Hexagon has 158. The objective is to know as many inhabitants as possible, their activity and their projects.
Within the Ressourcerie de la Coop 5 pour 100 in Caen, several highlights are worth mentioning:
• an animation “Surviving in the sorting zone” which consists of enhancing the value of the collected objects that people no longer need to give them a second life, the Thursday 14 October from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
• a morning of donations and exchanges in the Guérinière district to promote reuse outside the walls through solidarity actions of exchanges or donations of objects, Thursday 14 October, Place de la Liberté in Caen from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
• 2 behind-the-scenes tours of the 5 percent Coop saturday 17 october at 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
Nationally, 45,000 tonnes of objects are reused each year.
