A reflection announcement on the reopening of the SNCF Caen-Flers line by the region Normandy, it is a gesture which I could not rejoice you railwaymen.
And especially Allan Bertu, CGT general secretary the railway workers of Caen:
This proves that our actions are bearing fruit, that we have succeeded in putting the Caen-Flers line back into the public debate. It is a reward for our militant work. This re-motivates us, so that we move from reflection to action, and integrates the reopening of the line in a state-region plan contract.
Indeed, the railway workers have been leading the fight for several years so that the reopening of the line becomes a reality. A fight more current than ever according to him: “with the awareness of the energy emergency, and even being more down to earth the rise in fuel prices, this will require reflection. “
“We are waiting for actions”
However, the trade unionist remains cautious and expects action: “what we want is something concrete, like a schedule with a date for the reopening of the line. “
In the meantime, they wish to be able to join the table of reflections as quickly as possible, “especially since it is one that we have been making in our demands for several decades. “
Jean-Louis Remande, active member of the fight for the reopening since 40 years, is he, more pessimistic :
I think as usual, we are given hope, it’s just the announcement. They don’t want to take the political decision.
Caen-Thury first?
He also recalls that in 2004, a study by the regional council estimated the reopening of the line at 80 million euros. “We start the same study again 20 years later, the figure is no longer the same. “
For him, we need a reopening of the line in several stages, with why not first Caen-Thury-Harcourt.
This would already be a good first step, which would not involve too much the finances. When they reopened the line in 1946, it was done with Caen-Thury-Harcourt at first.
He also criticizes the reaction of certain elected officials from Ornais, “who mention the cost of rehabilitating works of art, but they are checked every two years by approved persons, and they are always viable. They were built to carry mineral trains, so light passenger trains are safe. I always remain on the idea that during the health crisis we announce the next day, and that ultimately it is the same who make decisions. “
In the meantime, a working meeting will be organized by the CGT des Chemins de Caen on October 19, in order to reflect on a new mobilization action on the line announces Allan Bertu, “we must beat the iron while it is still hot” .
