North: the city of Caudry inherits an apartment in Monaco estimated at 7.5 million euros
The small town of Caudry (North), 14,487 inhabitants, has just inherited an apartment located in Monaco, the value of which it did not suspect. “Now they call me Monegasque,” laughs Frédéric Bricout, the mayor who still can’t believe it. “We knew that Louis Sandras had bequeathed an apartment to the town in 1985, but without precision. “When the notary, based in Monaco, called him a few days ago, the city councilor was amazed:” I was thinking of a sum close to 700,000 euros but I had completely forgotten a zero! »The 200 m2 apartment is valued… at 7.5 million euros (or 37,500 euros per square meter).
At the origin of this Christmas present before its time, this famous Louis Sandras, a local child who became a stylist and husband of the great seamstress Héléna Beauvilain, with whom he made his fortune in Paris. Remained attached to his city and a football fan, he financed the construction of a stadium that still bears his name. The latest inheritance is the consequence of the death of his second wife last summer, who had the usufruct of the property since her death in 1985.
“Beyond the money, it is touching to see that such a rich man has remained attached to this point to his small town, insists Frédéric Bricout. He wanted to be buried here, when he had become Monegasque. “
The small town is already expanding its Christmas list, which prominently features work on the Sainte-Maxellende basilica, the repair of schools, the construction of a nursing home and a sports hall. In the immediate future, it is a question of respecting the last wishes of this generous donor: to organize an annual football tournament in the town with the four best clubs in the district.
