Lyon, a city “moderately favorable” for pedestrians
The “walkable towns barometer” produced by a collective of associations reveals the feelings of pedestrians in town. In this ranking, Lyon obtains fourth place for cities with more than 200,000 inhabitants.
A collective of associations carried out this year a ” walkable cities barometer ” in France. Between December 2020 and March 2021, pedestrians were able to answer a questionnaire to give their feelings about their movement in the city. With a D, Lyon ranks fourth among cities with more than 200,000 inhabitants. The city obtains a rating of felt overall at 9.11 / 20. A rating below the average, but above other cities such as Marseille (5.19) or Montpellier (8). Lyon is slightly below the regional average, which is 9.8.
Among the other marks attributed by the inhabitants, we find favorable averages for Lyon with 10.06 for security and 11.24 for the development of city services. Notes that counterbalance with the others a little weaker. If Lyon only obtains 9.19 for the comfort of its pedestrians, she falls to 7.83 for the efforts made in the city. If some improvements in town are starting to take place, such as lowering the speed to 30 km / h in town, pedestrians in Lyon are still waiting for improvements to ensure better comfort.
A revealer
More than 43,000 questionnaires were used by Places aux Pedestrians, 60 million pedestrians, Rue de l’Avenir and the French Hiking Federation to obtain these results. The survey generally shows that pedestrians, in towns and villages, feel left out by politicians. On a national level, France obtains an average of 9.2 / 20. The region with the best score is Bourgogne-France-Comté with 10.7 while French Polynesia and French Guiana share the last position with 5.1 on average.
Among the criteria that will improve the mobility of pedestrians in the city, the participants voted for wider and safer sidewalks, reserved for walking, the verbalization of motorized vehicles parked on pedestrian crossings and sidewalks, moderate vehicle speed in places frequented by pedestrians and the creation of a complete pathway network for pedestrians in town.
