projects around Toulouse are scraping the bottom of the drawer
The Prime Minister announced on October 6 the winners of the call for projects launched in the spring to communities for public transport on its own site and multimodal transport hubs. 162 projects led by all local authorities were selected across the country, in particular concerning new high-level tram and bus lines.
It is by far the Lille metropolis and its large tramway project that will receive the most public money, more than 120 million euros. The former Midi-Pyrénées had no major promising project to present, in particular, result of less than 7 million euros promised on the 900 evaluated. The department of Finistère alone, by way of comparison, was able to release 23 million euros in state aid, in particular for its second tram line in Brest.
The Borderouge-Rangeuil and Muret-Basso-Cambo lines in Toulouse
The two most subsidized projects with us are two high-level bus lines designed by Tisséo: the future Linéo 12 between Borderouge and Rangueil and the future Express line between Muret and Basso-Cambo. They receive 1.6 million and 2.1 million euros from the French transport infrastructure funding agency respectively.
the Line 12 was detailed last April by Tisséo, it should be operational at the start of the 2024 school year. It concerns a basin of nearly 50,000 inhabitants in the‘is Toulouse and more than 5,000 middle and high school students. It will follow the ring road and serve Montaudran, Soupetard, Saint-Exupéry.
The “Express” line between Muret and the terminus of metro line A in Basso-Cambo is an older project and should also see the light of day in 2024. It will serve the Portet commercial area. Other Express lines, aimed at connecting a city to a metro or a train station, are being studied, such as Pechbonnieu or Ayguevives which could be connected to line B, or Saint-Lys at Colomiers station.
Seven multimodal hubs
Multimodal interchange poles (PEM) are a place of exchanges connecting to different modes of transport: train, metro, bus, carpooling, bicycle, etc… It facilitates connections. It is for example in Toulouse the Matabiau station, the Arenas. But it can also be in stations of small towns considered as interchange nodes with important flows and for which it is necessary to organize the “logistics of the last kilometers” or how to get home once arrived at the station.
The future Basso-Cambo PEM in Toulouse was retained by the State, with an envelope of 1.9 million euros, or 12% of the total amount. The work of a neighbor large multi-storey car park have started this year, while the relay car park will be redeveloped in particular to accommodate bikes. Electric charging stations will also be installed by 2022.
Six other smaller projects have also been selected in Midi-Pyrénées concerning these multimodal transport hubs: in Ariège, the stations of Saverdun (260,000 euros), Varilhes (160,000 euros) and Tarascon (120,000 euros), near Montauban the station Grisolles (30,000 euros), north-east of Toulouse, the train station Montastruc-la-Conseiller (70,000 euros) and the train station Saint-Affrique in Aveyron (100,000 euros).
To be eligible, the works must not have started on the launch date of the call for projects and must start before the end of 2025. 85% of the projects submitted were accepted.
