New strategy for the capital region: Berlin Technology Park Adlershof relies on the Lausitz – Berlin axis
The Berlin Technology Park Adlershof is relying on the market for further growth. Managing Director Roland Sillmann strongly promoted the new Adlershof-Cottbus cooperation axis to the new Lausitz Science Center, which is being developed in the course of structural change, in Potsdam on Wednesday. “Together we have the chance to become number one in Europe in terms of knowledge transfer,” said Sillmann.
Brandenburg would not be able to do that alone, and Berlin alone would not be able to do that either. “We can win the Champions League.” According to him, the Lusatian Science Park has similar potentials as the Adlershof site, which started out small and which is one of the technology parks with 1200 companies, 17 scientific institutions and 30,000 employees.
However, the growth arises at the limits, not because of scarce space, but, according to Sillmann, because of the traffic. And that is not solvable in the long run, “if all employees continue to commute every morning between 7 and 9 o’clock.”
A way out? Adlershof is starting a pilot project with coworking and residential options in the easily accessible city of Lübben, halfway between Berlin and Cottbus. The aim is to create areas in Lübben that Adlershof companies rent for employees who live in the region.
The entire region at a glance
Sillmann is head of the state-owned Berlin Wistas GmbH, which Adlershof operates. With his plea, he appeared at the opening event of the State Chancellery for the new Brandenburg regional development strategy, which was discussed for the first time with representatives from the region.
“We can’t close it in Potsdam and then tip it across the country. We can only do this together, ”said State Chancellor Kathrin Schneider (SPD). One has the entire region in view, including Berlin, there is also a trend towards life in the country: If Eberswalde is now parallel to Kreuzberg, because of good connections and the neighborhood structure, that is positive.
The strategy relies on development corridors such as Adlershof-Cottbus, which go in all directions along the central railway lines from Berlin. Up until now, Brandenburg had primarily promoted cities in the state that had an impact on the surrounding rural areas. Now it’s about more networking, innovation, digitization, but also about staying in Brandenburg, said Schneider.

“We have big Berlin in our midst, where a lot of people want to eat.” Nevertheless, according to her example, it took many years until Butter Lindner no longer gets its milk from Denmark, but from the Gläserne Molkerei Münchehofe.
The Mayor of Ludwigsfeld Andreas Igel, chairman of the local neighborhood forum of Berlin districts and surrounding municipalities, urged the Potsdam government to finally support the necessary social infrastructure, the construction of daycare centers and schools, parallel to this growth strategy.
