Baker’s bread prices increase significantly – salzburg.ORF.at

With up to ten percent higher prices for bread and pastries in the coming weeks, bakers and confectioners in East are causing a stir. In Salzburg, the guild expects slightly lower but still significant increases. It is said that the costs of energy and wages have risen.
Even dying – compared to the few who previously remained – bakers and confectioners in the city and state of Salzburg are facing difficult times, according to the industry.
Guild master lists a long list
In contrast to Vienna, the Salzburg guild master Karl Heinz Thurnhofer does not expect price increases of up to ten percent, but it will not be possible here without surcharges either: “Many raw materials have not become more expensive in two years. But this year there were massive increases. There are certain seeds from China, USA or Turkey. Internationally, however, there are fewer ships, and that also drives up transport prices. What hurts us most is the sharp rise in the cost of electricity, gas, oil and diesel. “
According to the industry spokesman, wage increases of up to 2.4 percent and the factor of the lack of workers will also come from October. Bakers, confectioners and salespeople are urgently needed.
“A lot of anger about insufficient CoV aids”
The fact that the companies also suffered from government aid during the CoV lockdown annoys many people, the guild master emphasizes: “All the subsidies passed us by as bakers and confectioners. Funding was only given to those who had a drop in sales of more than 50 or 60 percent. That is of course devastating in our industry. “
Despite everything, the Salzburg guild master is still optimistic that many customers remain loyal to the bakers and do not migrate to baked frozen goods at food discounters.
