Agriculture. Near Toulouse, an escape game on the farm to break the clichés
The domain of Lamothe, in Seysses, near Toulouse, organized this Wednesday, October 6 an escape game on the theme: “Locked in a farm, will you be able to get out?” A way of deconstructing the clichés about the agricultural professions.
Retired farmers who cannot find a buyer; active peasants who are struggling to make up for short vacations; difficult jobs due to climatic hazards and regulations; and finally, the loneliness that a certain aspect of the profession suggests. In short, agriculture is not always a dream, even if agricultural high schools in the Occitanie region attract a significant number of students each year.
Fight prejudices
How then to give a realistic image of the professions of agriculture, without embellishing, but by breaking down some prejudices? The fun way can be a good start …
In any case, that’s what the Haute-Garonne Chamber of Agriculture, the region Occitania, Purpan engineering school, replacement service farmers, the Haute-Garonne local mission and Toulouse getaway. All these partners have joined forces for the organizer of an escape game, this Wednesday, October 6. Entitled The Hay Cup, his invitation was as follows: “Locked in a farm, will you be able to get out?“
72 participants responded, it was the maximum for the day. The Lamothe estate near Seysses, the site of the Purpan agricultural school farm school, welcomed them. For a fun afternoon, but also didactic. Because, the cycles of nature and cultures, contemporary breeding techniques still remain a mystery for many young city dwellers (and not only …).
“It was super interesting to be outside rather than locked in a usual escape game“, explains Emilie, participant.”I found that there was a good balance between showing new things and the game not so easy. We who have some basics through our studies, it made us think a little“.
For people who have no notion of the rural world, this is a good way to introduce people to it.
Careers of the future
“The interest is really to show the reality of the agricultural world, the evolution that has been able to take place“, recognizes Gervais Wallois, operator of the Lamothe estate.”Aroused the interest of young people in the professions of the future. The Purpan school trains nearly 300 trades, it’s really a rewarding field“.
We want to send the message that we have the safest and most sustainable agriculture in the world. We must be proud of it and we must pass it on to the younger generations.
Occitania, a land of breeding and cultures
Occitanie is the most important agricultural region in France, in terms of agricultural land, in the plains, mountains and medium mountains. It has many activities, from breeding to viticulture through the cultivation of cereals, and just as many labels, quality appellations, such as Label Rouge veal from Ségala, Roquefort, Porc noir de Gascogne, and so many others. It also counts almost thirty agricultural high schools.
