Mobile drug help required in Salzburg
The baseCamp mobil, an advice and help bus, has been on the road in the state since August of this year. The low-threshold offer for drug users and drug addicts includes, among other things, support and advice on addiction issues and everyday life, information on safer use and safer sex, syringe exchange, hepatitis C screenings, and health advice, according to the press release. “Suchhilfe is a long-standing and reliable partner of the state who has the know-how, the professionalism as well as the empathy required for this work”, Deputy Governor Heinrich Schellhorn (Greens). The aim is to turn this “successful and highly frequented” pilot project into a permanent offer.

The advice bus is very much in demand. In the first month, more than 5,000 syringe sets were exchanged, 214 initial contacts and 56 consultations were made. “From more than 40 years of work in the Salzburg drug counseling service, we know that a low-threshold drug facility is an indispensable component in the overall concept of comprehensive drug work,” says Gottfried Jakober, Managing Director of Addiction Aid Salzburg. Sophie Mackinger, coordinator of the project, adds: “With our bus, we are reaching a completely new clientele who have not yet visited any other facilities.
