Record for a zoo near Toulouse: seven lion cubs were born in a few weeks
Several weeks ago, the 3 lionesses of African Safari, the zoo of Plaisance-du-have each given birth to babies! In total, seven lion cubs were born a few weeks apart. Unheard of for the park, whose last lion cubs were born in 2013.
After a gestation period of 105 to 110 days, the 3 lionesses Tika, Shy and Féroce, each gave birth to young.
It was first Féroce, who gave birth on the night of July 28 to 29, 2 males (Balou and Raïkaan) and 1 female (Malkia). On August 21, Naïka, Tika’s little one, was born. Finally, on September 1st, it was Shy’s turn, who gave birth to 3 females (Yali, Shira, Wonja).
The caretakers and the veterinarian have redoubled their attention to the first litters of these young females. Despite their young age, lionesses quickly showed caring for their young. Attila, the father, is very protective.
The first three cubs, born this summer, are already visible to the public
Today, the entire African Safari team is keeping a close eye on these lion cubs.
A sign of animal welfare, the birth of lion cubs is also good news for the preservation of African lions, threatened mainly by trophy hunting and the reduction of their natural habitat.
Visitors can come and observe the first 3 cubs born in the Safari section, which can be visited by car.
The little ones of Féroce, over 2 months old, are very smart. They have been going outside for a few days, along with Attila.
Lionesses Tika and Shy, as well as their cubs will join them soon.
