Lourdes cows and sheep in the spotlight at Tydos
The second edition of the festival of cows and heavy ewes at Tydos was a great success, barely disturbed by the pouring rain on Sunday all day.
The festival had started very well under a magnificent sun and with a parade of animals in the streets of Lourdes on Saturday afternoon for this second edition of the festival of cows and heavy sheep. A parade very appreciated by the inhabitants and the many people who had made the trip to attend this parade. The animals then took the direction of the covered market of Tydos where the demonstration took place over two days at the initiative of Bernard Abadie president of the national association of the heavyeaise bovine breed and Daniel Casteyde, unavoidable breeder of sheep who made of defending this typical race his fight for many years. A beautiful event thwarted by the driving rain which was invited on Sunday, accentuated by the inconvenience encountered by the structure housing the party but, on the whole, the public was delighted. “Yesterday afternoon, we had a lot of people, the breeders gave demonstrations of herding dogs, sheep shearing and also the harnessing of four pairs of cows. We finished at midnight after a good meal. participated groups of singers and about 240 people “said the president of the ANRBL. In total nearly thirty cows were present, a majority of ewes and even poultry from the Hautes-Pyrénées poultry association but also from the Gascon hen.
Infiltrations at Tydos
Sunday, the tydos market was covered only in name since the guests played musical chairs to avoid the rain which was invited by the roof of the building. However, the mass received by Jean-François Duhar, the parish priest of Lourdes, was very well attended, as was the blessing of the animals just after. A nice moment as confirmed by Bernard Abadie: “this morning, the sung mass was very beautiful and there were a lot of people. We had the visit of the deputy, Jeanine Dubié, Jean-Louis Cazaubon for the Region and the mayor of Lourdes Thierry Lavit, who took pictures with us “.
The opportunity for the organizers to speak with the latter on the subject of the roof of the Tydos: “There is a lack of waterproofing of the roof, it must be redone because, here, for us, it is really the place. ideal. it’s well placed, not far from the city without being in it so as not to generalize people, it’s really the right place. It’s a shame for this lunchtime, we had good meat, see you there ‘a neighbor’.
