As disruptions to global navigation satellite systems become a cheap and easy way to deny and deny the use of airspace, Saab is developing means to counter the threat to its Gripen fighter. (Saab)
Sweden and Saab develop means to counter disruption of the Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) on Gripen fighter jets to deny the enemy “the cheapest anti-access and area denial [A2AD] ever weapons, ”said a company official

and other media on 30 September.
Gripen’s experimental test pilot, Jonas Jakobsson, said that with hostile disruption of global navigation satellite systems that could close large airspace to national allied air forces, efforts are being made to eliminate the threat to ensure the precision required for navigation and direction.
“How do we handle [jamming] in an aircraft that really depends on GNSS to achieve the precision we need? Of course we have intelligence and civilian NOTAM [Notice to Airmen] that is to say, in this area we have detected GNSS disruptions right now. The easiest way to avoid this is to stay away from the area that has suddenly made the GNSS interference the cheapest A2AD weapon of all time. You do not have to shoot anything, you just radiate, and if it makes you stay out of that area, the mission is complete [for your enemy], Says Jakobsson.
