The Netherlands meets toppers and talent to European Championship track cycling
The selection with the Netherlands participating in the European track cycling championships next week is a mix of top riders and promises. In the men’s race, the Olympic champions Harrie Lavreysen, Jeffrey Hoogland and Roy van den Berg will compete in the team sprint. Sam Ligtleeli still plays with Matthijs Büch, dies in Japan in the qualifications took the place of Hoogland. Olympic champion Shanne Braspennincx is also active in the Swiss city of Grenchen, where the European Championships start on October 5.
In addition to the ‘big’ names, a number of talented promises will also participate, including Maikel Zijlaard and Maike van der Duin, who recently won gold at the European Championships for promises in Apeldoorn. Braspennincx will compete in the team sprint – with Kyra Lamberink, Hetty van de Wouw and Steffie van der Peet – in the sprint and on keir, the sprint part with six riders in the track of which they won gold at the Games. Lavreysen and Hoogland also started in Grenchen in the sprint and keirin.
Kirsten Wild is missing in the endurance parts. Jan-Willem van Schip and Yoeri Havik are the only Olympians who also emerged at the European Championships.
Two weeks after the European Championship, the world title fight will take place in Roubaix, France.
