Norway, Sweden and Denmark strengthen defense co-operation
The agreement facilitates coordination of operations in the southern Scandinavian areas. A steering committee will be set up with representatives from each defense ministry, and military authorities will discuss how to coordinate relevant operational plans, according to a press release.
“A serious security crisis in the Nordic region would affect all the Nordic countries. We must be prepared to act together, both in peace and in the event of such a situation. Coordination of national operational plans will improve our ability to cooperate. This agreement is the starting point for enhanced cooperation on operational planning between Norway, Sweden and Denmark. The purpose is to enable fast and efficient cooperation and interaction between the three countries “, says the Norwegian Minister of Defense Frank Bakke-Jensen.
“This agreement complements existing co-operation with Sweden and Finland in the Barents region and supports the overall Nordic defense co-operation,” says Bakke-Jensen. Nordic defense co-operation is an important complement to our NATO membership, and this is reflected in the agreement, ”points out Minister of Defense Bakke-Jensen.
